Originally from southwest Virginia, Andy Reaser is a writer-producer with over two decades experience in television. He believes story is the most important and least understood element of writing. Andy approaches every new narrative as a mystery: the writer arranging puzzle pieces to reveal that story's unique identity. His credits include Charmed, Pretty Little Liars, Bel Air and seven seasons on Grey’s Anatomy.
During his Masterclass, he addresses a range of topics, including how to know if you're writing the right thing, the best way to spend your time before opportunity knocks, what showrunners, execs, and agents look for in writing samples, separating your ego from your writing, generating story in a group setting, dos and don'ts for your first job on staff, and what happens during a day in the life of a television writer.
Our host, Peter Kimball, is an award-winning writer, filmmaker, and scholar. As a director, his short films -- including "Millstone" (2023), "My Brother is Deaf" (2022), and "I'll Sleep When You're Dead" (2023) -- have played in festivals on four continents and won such awards as Best-of-Fest at the Rochester International Film Festival, Best Comedy at Love Your Shorts Festival, and Best Screenplay at DC Shorts. Peter works professionally as a screenwriter, with experience in book adaptation, rewriting, and writing for hire. He is also a professor at George Mason University, where he teaches screenwriting, television writing, and fiction film directing.
