Visiting Filmmakers Series Online: Black Lives Matter: Donovan Jones

Wednesday, April 14, 2021 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT
Online Location

Join Donovan Jones, a Mason alumnus (BA in Film and Video Studies ’18) and a 2020 winner of the Young Alumni Creative Development Award, for a presentation of the music video, “Do Better,” and a live conversation about this work, as well as his general advice to young filmmakers.

Jones will be in conversation with Film and Video Studies Professor and Emmy-nominated cinematographer Hans Charles. Jones used the creative development award to produce the video for Hakeem, an up-and-coming artist, student, and community activist who is bringing awareness to issues facing his community through personal stories. “Do Better” tells a dual tale about two kids from the same inner city neighborhood: they never cross paths until one is falsely accused of robbery.

Following the video presentation, Jones will discuss his recent work on film and television productions, including Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), Harriet (2019) and Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird (2020). He is currently working on the upcoming Apple TV series Swagger. He looks forward to sharing his journey and advice about working in the film industry during the pandemic.

Our event is free and open to the public.

This live conversation will be available to watch beginning Wednesday, April 14 at 7pm ET, simultaneously on the Center for the Arts webpage, or the Center for the Arts Facebook page and YouTube channel. Viewers will be able to submit questions live from Facebook and YouTube.
