followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Marcelo Torcida

Friday October 23 at 5pm in Johnson Center Cinema

Happy Those Who Cry (Paraguay 2014) explores the dichotomy of agency and fate when a boy from a wealthy family, Juan (Carlos Cabra), tries to escape the hypocrisy of his privileged life. On the streets, he meets a local spiritual leader, Father Mario, who becomes determined to return Juan to health and safety.

Marcelo Torcida will be interviewed on Studio A preceding the screening of his film. All are invited to attend this live-to tape taping in Innovation Hall at 2:45pm (4th Floor, GMU TV Studio). As this is a recorded and televised event, attendees will be asked to leave electronic devices out of the room (or turned off) and there will be no access to the sound stage.

At 4:30, we will hold a reception for him at Johnson Center Cinema. The screening begins at 5pm in JCC, followed by a Q&A with Marcelo.

All events are free and open to the public.

This event is co-presented by GMU's Film and Video Studies, Film and Media Studies, the Global Film Club, Latin American Studies, and the Washington West Film Festival.
