DKA's Cinema Literacy Committee Presents
A screening and discussion of We Need to Talk About Kevin (Lynne Ramsay 2011)
Weds December 2 7pm Exploratory Hall L004
A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin explores the factious relationship between a mother and her son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, We Need to Talk About Kevin explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva's own culpability is measured against Kevin's innate evil.-- Oscilloscope Laboratories
The Washington Post's Ann Hornaday writes, "As squirm-inducing as the story is, and as timely a note as it strikes, 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' turns out not to be about the social problems of violence or alienated teens as much as it's a meditation on the unspoken emotional transmissions between parents and children. Rather than galvanizing feelings of something-must-be-done, viewers are left with a far less tidy reminder that, while our worst drives and impulses generally go underground, they can just as easily be passed on and magnified."
Roger Ebert, "Directed by Lynne Ramsay, 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' is fragments of time, jagged and confusing, lurching around inside her mind. The film moves without any pattern between past, present and who knows when."
Time Magazine's Mary Pols: "We Need To Talk About Kevin doesn’t just bring you to the outskirts of a parent’s worst nightmare; this fever dream of guilt and loss takes you straight inside."

This event is sponsored by Delta Kappa Alpha at GMU. It is free and open to the public.
